Artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many industries, leading to incredible advancements. However, there’s a new, darker side to this technology that’s becoming increasingly evident—its use in creating and spreading child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for global cooperation, stronger regulations, and cutting-edge technological solutions to combat this harmful misuse of AI.
AI-generated content is becoming more sophisticated, particularly with deepfake technology, which can create highly realistic images and videos. Unfortunately, criminals are using AI to produce fake CSAM by superimposing children’s faces onto adult bodies or generating entirely fictional scenarios that look disturbingly real. These images and videos are then shared on the dark web, making it extremely difficult for law enforcement to trace their origins and catch those responsible.
One of the biggest challenges in combating AI-generated CSAM is detecting it in the first place.
